Chayil, (pronounced kha-yil) is actually Hebrew and means, "to be strong and valiant, like an army having many resources, full of s...trength, virtue and high moral standard". In its full term, Chayil Ishah is the Hebrew word that describes the Proverbs 31 woman. She sets the tone of love, spirituality, and personal growth for all those around her. To know her is to appreciate her strength and talents. Now that you understand the meaning behind the name, it is equally important to know that the description of this magnificent woman is who each of the women in Chayil aspire to be --- not who they are.
As for how this group of women came about.... Chivonne, Kanique, Nadeen and Kerry met and sang together at Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, Massachusetts from 1999 - 2003 at which point they went their separate ways. God would have it that by 2004 - 2005 they'd reunite in Maryland and their love for God and good music would reinvent a group of friends whose name would go through a few changes before becoming Chayil.
In 2008, Shervon came on board sharing the same love for God and music and Chyves would follow in early 2009. They too had been members of other existing groups but God had a special purpose for this unique set of women. In 2008 they officially became Chayil. Over the years, these girls would mature into God-fearing women that have journeyed through each other’s lives as friends, roommates, co-workers, bridesmaids, aunties, and sisters that support and stretch each other spiritually, personally, professionally, mentally, socially and otherwise.
Since forming Chayil they've ministered in several cities along the east coast from New York to South Carolina and Ohio. Many have prayed, encouraged and challenged Chayil to expand the borders of their ministry. It's been years in the making but Chayil has decided to answer the call to minister to a hurting world about a God who's loved them from darkness into light.
Presently, Chayil is working on the behind the scenes steps of developing the expansion of their ministry so stay tuned because there's so much more to come...
